The Video Content People Actually Watch
There’s a time and place for video content and, if you’re drawn to this, here’s how I approach doing it.
Note that "talking head" Zoom videos add nothing to audio content 99% of the time—you're going to have to do better than this if you want to attract new people to what you're doing.
Here are some ideas you can try on video:
Vlog / Diary
Create a series documenting a "day in your life" as you navigate through different tasks and challenges related to your podcast. Show behind-the-scenes of your podcast production to give viewers an authentic look at your creative process.
Q&A
Host a live Q&A session where listeners can submit questions about your podcast's topics or your personal experiences. Use this as an opportunity to connect with your audience and address their curiosities directly. Use visuals!
How-to / Tutorials
Develop a video tutorial on a skill or topic related to your podcast's theme. Break down complex ideas into easy-to-follow steps, making it accessible for viewers looking to learn something new.
Product Review
Review products or services that align with your podcast's niche. Share honest feedback and highlight pros and cons, helping your audience make informed decisions.
Testimonial
Feature testimonials from satisfied listeners or guests who have appeared on your podcast. Use these to showcase the impact and value of your content through genuine stories and experiences.
User-Generated Content
Encourage your audience to create and submit videos related to your podcast's theme. Highlight these in a compilation video to foster community engagement and showcase diverse perspectives.
Contests / Giveaways
Launch a contest where viewers can enter by sharing or engaging with your content. Announce the winner in a follow-up video, creating excitement and rewarding loyal fans.
Personalized Listener Messages
Record personalized video messages for select listeners, thanking them for their support. Share these in a special video episode to strengthen the community bond and make your audience feel valued.
My suggestion—try these things on both video and audio. Both will strengthen the main content you release on your audio-only podcast, if done right.
