Current technology to record and edit ourselves is amazing and inexpensive. And easy to take for granted.
When I started in radio production, we used reel-to-reel recorders and, if you needed to make an edit to something, you did it with a razor blade and tape.
And yeah, it was a bitch, but it was also expensive … and there were big limitations.
We were limited by the amount of tape we had to record with, limited transmission of a broadcast tower, and limited airtime available on a station.
This was the 90s – not that long ago.
It’s easy to look at the “good old days” and think things were great. And a lot of things really were great.
But right now is the best it’s ever been.
I’m thankful for that and I’m thankful for you for coming along on this journey with me.
Thanks for the memories. Back in the day, I spliced tape, too. Now, a simple click takes care of it.
