People ask me what I use to record Build a Big Podcast all the time, so here’s the list …
Microphone - RE20 by Electro-Voice
Interface - Focusrite Scarlet 4i4 (4th Gen)
Audio Processing - dbx286s Microphone Preamp & Channel Strip Processor (mostly for the noise gate) and Cloudlifter
Audio Software - Audacity to record, Izotope RX (Advanced) for cleanup and post-processing, Auphonic to prep files for download

Yes. I record in a space built for podcasting and radio. It’s not fancy, just a glorified walk-in closet, but I’ve probably got $1000 worth of acoustic treatment, including custom panels, lots of foam, and blankets. I had an electrician wire it, so I’ve got power and lights. And there are booms, a gear rack, and a computer. There’s a backup recorder.
I’m going to assume you have a computer already. The rest of this stuff is optional and you can add it to your equipment list as you grow.
Just starting? Assuming you’ve got the computer, this USB mic will get you going for under $100. You’ll also benefit by reading these three articles:
