Podcasting Advice from a 70-Year-Old Landlord

For years, I worked out of an old convent. Between the time the nuns had lived there and I was there, the building was used as a high school.

I was in the principal’s office, which I found hilarious, considering how many visits I had to the principal’s office when I was in school.

Being in the entertainment business, I kept late hours, so it wasn’t uncommon for me to be in the office in the middle of the night.

One night, around 2AM, I exited the main entrance, went down the stone steps to the ground level, and ran into the landlord.

He was an older guy, easily in his 70s.

He was sweeping the sidewalk.

"Another late-night worker," I said jokingly.

He replied, "When you're the boss, you have lots of opportunities to do things you wouldn't get to do otherwise."

That was 20 years ago and I've thought about that interaction many times since.

One thing I love about self-employment is that it’s allowed me to do a lot of things and learn a lot of skills that I never would never have had the opportunity (or need) to do otherwise.

The same could be said for podcasting.
