Great Podcasters Recognize Talent
Be willing to take a chance on and help develop new guests.
Successful podcasters identify and nurture talent. They’re open to taking chances on people who can provide unique insights, stories, or expertise that’s helpful for their audiences, even if these people aren’t widely known.
These podcasters serve as "media coaches"—they understand the impact that media exposure can have on an individual's career or message and share it. By providing a platform, they’re not only contributing to the growth and diversity of content within their podcasts, they’re also aiding in the personal development of the guest.
An example …
I sat in on a live broadcast earlier this week and one guest was a 16-year-old student athlete. This kid has a ton of eyes on him and is already getting calls from college coaches who want to talk to him about playing at that level.
This was his first media interview.
After the show, I talked with the host about this. Yeah, it was great for the show, but it was also good for the kid.
Great interviews benefit everybody involved. And giving an opportunity to somebody new will set you up for even better interviews in the future, as some people you interview early in their careers will go on to do big things.
